What Threshold does with your data

The short version: Threshold doesn't collect anything. There's no account to create, no analytics running in the background, and nothing about how you use the app is sent anywhere — on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac. This page explains exactly what that means in practice, including the few places where something does leave your device, and only because you chose it to.

Accounts and personal data

There's no sign-in, no profile, and no personal information collected or stored by Threshold at any point. The app doesn't know who you are.

Quotes and notifications

Each day's quote is calculated entirely on your device from the current date — nothing is fetched from a server, and no record of which quotes you've seen is kept or transmitted anywhere. Daily notifications are scheduled locally using Apple's standard notification system and never leave your device either.

Crash and error reports

If the app crashes or hangs, Apple's MetricKit framework may detect this and make a short technical summary available to Threshold — this is a standard, privacy-preserving part of iOS and macOS, not something Threshold adds on top.

Nothing is ever sent automatically. If a report is available, you're asked directly, in the app, whether you'd like to send it. If you agree, an email compose window opens with the report already filled in for you to review — you decide whether to actually send it, and you see exactly what it contains before you do. Declining, or simply not responding, means nothing is sent.

A report only ever contains technical details: a timestamp, app and OS version, and the type of crash or hang. It never contains which quotes you've seen or anything else about how you use the app.

Giving and support

Threshold's Support screen offers two ways to give, depending on your device's region:

Text Giving (UK devices) hands off entirely to your phone's own Messages app, pre-filled with a keyword and amount to send to a UK donation shortcode operated by Donr, a third-party giving platform. That transaction is between you, your mobile network, and Donr — Threshold has no visibility into it at all. Donr's own privacy practices apply to that transaction, not this policy.

Bank transfer details (shown outside the UK) are just account information displayed on-screen, with a button to copy the IBAN to your clipboard for pasting into your own banking app. No transfer happens inside Threshold itself.

Links that leave the app

A few things in Threshold — the project link, the support email — open in Safari, Mail, or Messages rather than inside the app. Once you leave Threshold this way, whatever site or app you land on has its own privacy practices, separate from this one.

Children's privacy

Threshold doesn't collect personal data from anyone, including children, and isn't directed at children specifically.

Changes to this policy

If anything about how Threshold handles data ever changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised accordingly.
